Selma Debuts Strong During Opening Weekend

Though the Golden Globes largely snubbed Selma, the film making waves for it’s depiction of Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., it still performed well in theatres over the weekend, debuting at number two just behind Taken 3. 

Directed by Ava Duvernay, despite criticism over the portrayal of former President Lyndon B. Johnson, it’s also garnered praise for showing the fight to have illegal voting laws repealed following years of racism in the South.

Porn Star Accuses Chris Brown Of Harassing Her For Refusing Sex With Him

Porn star Kagney Linn Karter took to Twitter to expose Chris Brown for allegedly harassing her after she refused his sexual advances.

In a series of tweets, Karter says that Brown paid her $2,500 to be an escort for him for one night. Karter claims that she had no plans of having relations with the “New Flame” singer. She says that when she refused to sleep with Breezy, he had a fit and began sending her explicit pictures of himself (one can be seen here), bullying and stalking her. In her tweets she said the night she spent with him was  “the worse night of her life” and deciding to be his escort was the “worse decision she ever made.”

EXCLUSIVE: Grand Puba Reunites With Babygrande Records For New “The More Things Change” LP, Drops Title Track

 Grand Puba has renewed his partnership with Babygrande Records for the release of his upcoming The More Things Change album. The Brand Nubian founding member’s 5th solo LP is slated to hit stores this spring, and he plans to use the project as a platform to shed light on the proverb “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”

“I have always felt that I am both an emcee and messenger for the people. Technology has ushered in the Information Age and its time for all people to use this age to right the wrongs of the past and set things up for a righteous future,” Puba tells AllHipHop.com.

The More Things Change will be the first official release from Grand Puba since 2009’s Retroactive. The politically conscious lyricist starts his Babygrande reunion off with the project’s title track. The jazz-influenced song narrates Puba’s views on police brutality, slave movies, stolen history, unifying the community, and Black pride. “The More Things Change” single features production by PhD and vocals from Isis.

“It saddens me to see a new generation experiencing the same social, political and economic challenges that every generation prior has faced. The world is watching everything from police brutality, to the failure of our judicial system, to Hollywood’s continuous inaccurate portrayal of our Egyptian ancestors. The world is watching,” adds the Hip Hop legend. “I am thrilled to be back with Babygrande to release my new album and to do my part as an emcee and as a messenger.”

Common & John Legend Wins Golden Globe Award For “Best Original Song”

It looks like Hip Hop had a successful night at the Golden Globe Awards tonight. At the prestigious ceremony, Chicago rapper Common and GOOD Music singer John Legend had won the award for “Best Original Song”. The two artists won the award for their song titled “Glory” from the movie Selma. Common went the extra mile during his acceptance speech by paying tribute unarmed black teens. The song beat out several competitive nominations, including Lorde, Lana Del Ray, Patty Smith & Lennay Kay, and Sia & Greg Kurstin. Kid Cudi Responds To Kendrick’s “Mike Brown” Comment, Lupe Jumps In

Kendrick Lamar has people quite upset over comments he’s made regarding Mike Brown and the state of the Black community.

The comments, seen below, stemmed from an interview with Billboard magazine.

I wish somebody would look in our neighborhood knowing that it’s already a situation, mentally, where it’s f—ked up. What happened to [Michael Brown] should’ve never happened. Never. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a rally, don’t start from looting — it starts from within.” Lamar, who has said that he wasn’t raised devoutly religious, fingers the small figure of Christ dangling from a chain around his neck. “We’re in the last days, man — I truly in my heart believe that. It’s written. I could go on with Biblical situations and things my grandma told me. But it’s about being at peace with myself and making good with the people around me.”

Kid Cudi responded on Twitter.

“Dear black artists, dont talk down on the black community like you are Gods gift to niggaz everywhere,” said Cudi on twitter. “If you wanna help, inspire, uplift, don’t point the blame and talk down.”

And then Lupe Fiasco jumped in and lamented Cudi for his commentary.

“Shut up…FOH @KidCudi. How about you stop shitting on the people who really cared about your well being when this biz was ripping you apart. Fake ass @KidCudi,” Fiasco said.

Kid Cudi then called Lupe “Poopé Fiasco.” Great.
