Legendary Soul Singer Al Green Recognized During Kennedy Center Honors

Each year the Kennedy Center Honors television special pays homage to a variety of entertainers and individuals alike and this year was no exception. Proving to be one of the highlights of the show was the honoring of legendary singer Al Green, who received tribute performances from Jennifer Hudson and Usher.

Also honored this year was Tom Hanks, Sting, Lily Tomlin and professional ballerina Patricia McBride. Presenters included Lady Gaga, Steven Spielberg, Bruce Springsteen, Mavis Staples, Meryl Streep, Reba McEntire, Martin Short and David Letterman.

Former KKK Wizard Calls Nicki Minaj’s Music ‘Disgusting And Horrific’

During a rant on his online radio show, former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan David Duke bashed Nicki Minaj and the “absolute filth, drugs and violence” that he says she promotes in her music.

While slamming the Young Money rapstress, he blamed her rise to fame on “Jewish-dominated media and our Jewish-dominated awards ceremonies.”

Why do people blame blacks like Minaj?” he asked. “Because Minaj wouldn’t be a pimple on somebody’s rear end except for the fact that she is promoted by the Jewish record producers and the media, the mass media, the powerful media that promotes absolute degenerates like her.”

He went on to call The Pinkprint emcee’s music “disgusting and horrific and violent and drug-drenched.”

During this hour-long outburst, he also called hip-hop “absolutely sickening” and claimed that “rap music is not something blacks are really responsible for, saying that “it was the Jewish record producers who promoted this degenerate and sick and horrific music.”

Master P Offers Reward To Help Solve A Murder Case

To prevent an unsolved murder from turning into a cold case, Master P is offering a reward to anyone who helps solve the murder of 22-year-old Charles Fambrough. Fambrough, who resided in Louisville, Kentucky, was shot and killed on Christmas day in 2012.

The entrepreneur hopes that offering this reward will inspire someone to come forward with details about the murder.

“Somebody sitting around bragging at home thinking it’s a joke. It’s not a joke,” the No Limit CEO told WHAS 11. “You took somebody up from somebody’s loved ones that really miss that person that should be here with their family.”

The amount of the reward has not been revealed but Master P is willing to pay “as much as necessary” to help find Fambrough’s killer. He recently teamed up with Fambrough’s fiancee to give bikes to Loiusville children for the holidays.

Fambrough left behind a now 3-year-old son.

Yo Gotti Gives Back With 3rd Annual Christmas Carnival

Having previously gone as far as to hand deliver gifts throughout his community, Memphis emcee Yo Gotti decided to expand his charitable efforts this holiday season, teaming up with NBA veteran Penny Hardaway to host the Third Annual Yo Gotti Christmas Carnival.

Speaking to WMC Action News 5 he explained, “We just want to bring people together and have a good time, touch a lot of kids and just give them the holiday spirit. Of course give them toys, but to me it’s bigger than the toys. It’s the spirit that you should get from the family. That’s why we bring the rides out, the reindeers out and bring a lot of kids so they can play with each other so they can have fun.”

NYPD Blasted By New York Times For “Defacing Its Reputation”

Although the relationship between members of New York’s finest and current mayor Bill de Blasio continues to deteriorate following the execution of two NYPD officers, the entire department is now under attack for turning their back on the mayor as he delivered a speech at the funeral of Officer Rafael Ramos on December 27.

Criticizing the actions of the NYPD the New York Times wrote, ““Mr. de Blasio isn’t going to say it, but somebody has to: With these acts of passive-aggressive contempt and self-pity, many New York police officers, led by their union, are squandering the department’s credibility, defacing its reputation, shredding its hard-earned respect.” The editorial continued, “They have taken the most grave and solemn of civic moments — a funeral of a fallen colleague — and hijacked it for their own petty look-at-us gesture. In doing so, they also turned their backs on Mr. Ramoss’ widow and her two young sons, and others in that grief-struck family.”

The stand-off stems from the recent Eric Garner verdict, as many officers have accused the mayor of siding with the flood of protesters who took to the streets to voice their growing frustration with perceived police misconduct.

LL Cool J Talks Working With Eminem and T.I For His ‘G.O.A.T 2′ Album (VIDEO)

The year 2015 marks LL Cool J’s 30th year in hip-hop. What better way to celebrate that than to release his 15th studio album?

For his next album G.O.A.T 2, which stands for the greatest all of time, he recruited hip-hop heavyweights Eminem and T.I and gushed about hopping in the studio with the two during an interview with RapUpTV.

“I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised when they hear me and Em’ on a record together,” said the Queens emcee. “The record I did with T.I is crazy. The one I did with Em is super hard…It’s some crazy records.”

He went on to say that to miss out on this album would be a “travesty for hip-hop.”

“I got a lot of young gunners on this album. People that are hungry and want to make the best music. It’s about the beats and the bars and the rhymes. It’s about being current and fresh and riveting, not a bunch of old, tired 95 nugget ring bullshit. It’s newness.”

LL says that he has a track with Bronx spitter Fred Da Godson as well.

Hannibal Buress Joins Will Ferrell Comedy “Daddy’s Home”

After calling Bill Cosby a rapist during an act, comedian Hannibal Buress successfully reignited speculation about the alleged misconduct of Cosby, however he’s already moving forward, landing a spot in Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming comedy Daddy’s Home.

The film centers on conservative radio executive (Ferrell) who finds himself competing for the affection of his step children with their biological father (Wahlberg.) Playing what he describes as a “sarcastic handyman,” Buress has also acted on various TV series including; Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock and Comedy Central’s Broad City.

Daddy’s Home is scheduled to hit theatres in 2015.

Solange Reacts To Getting Hit With Tax Lien

Solange got hit with a tax lien and she ain’t even know it.

Looks like when TMZ broke the news that Solange got a tax lien, it was not only news to us, but news to her as well.

The pap site reported that the tax lien for $55,000 was filed three days after Solange married her husband, Alan Ferguson, for unpaid taxes in 2010-12 in California. Bey’s little sis didn’t have a clue about the tax lien and found out about it while surfing the internet. She made light of the situation though when she took to Twitter after finding out she owed Uncle Sam money.

Why is Riff Raff Training With Hulk Hogan

Riff Raff is a rapper that is already known for a wild personality and boisterous antics, and that doesn’t stop him from doing things like this. Yesterday, Hulk Hugan announced via YouTube that he will have the Houston rapper as a tag team partner in the WWE. The Hulkster then tweeted the big news, with Riff Raff confirming it.

The Game Takes It To The Street With Millions March

The Game and other Hip-Hop heads took it to the streets to protest police brutality on Saturday with the Millions March.

The march also brought out DJ Mustard and Tyga who walked in solidarity with thousands of other peaceful protesters from Pacific Park.

The march went straight down the streets of the city without incident.

The Game has been outspoken against police brutality for years.

Earlier in the month, New York hosted the Millions March NYC that convened upwards of 75,000 people including Hip-Hop artists like Nas, Torea and Immortal Technique.

Solange Knowles Is In Tax Trouble

It doesn’t matter how dope you are in the entertainment world, Uncle Sam will still come for you if that money isn’t right. According to a post on TMZ, music artist Solange Knowles is being hit with a $55,000 debt from the State of California. The debt has been acknowledged by the state government for the years between 2010-2012. What make even matters worst is that Knowles was sent this notice a few days after her marriage. There hasn’t been any update on Knowles rebuttal to the tax lien.

Victim Comes Out About Shooting Involving Shyne, J.Lo, and Diddy

Earlier today on Instagram, UPNORTHTRIPS posted a Daily News front page about the shooting that involved celebrities Jennifer Lopez, Diddy, and Shyne. With a case that put Shyne in jail for 10 years and 3 victims affected by the shooting, lives were changed that fateful night, and today marks the 15th anniversary of the situation. While the post brought a lot of attention the the Instagram profile, one victim in the altercation spoke out about the unfortunate series of events. While some commenters acknowledged the victim’s story, some believed that it wasn’t the right photo to be frustrated about. Peep the photos below:

Ludacris Pops The Big Question To Eudoxie

Ludacris’ girlfriend is now his fiancee as the rapper popped the big question over the holiday break in a most creative way.

The rapper and former girlfriend – now fiancee – Eudoxie Agnan are engaged to be married.

How did he do it?

Ludacris had “Eudoxie, will you marry me?” painted on a field below a plane, as they flew over. When they traveled over the huge display, Luda had her look down to see the proposal. Both of them posted the pictures on Instagram, seen at the end of this article.

“BEST DAY OF MY LIFE WITH THE LOVE OF MY LIFE,” she said. And Luda commented, “She didn’t say yes. She said HELL YES.”

Now, they didn’t formally announce it, but the hashtag seems to tell it all – #milehighproposal.

The pair were on a private flight from Atlanta to Costa Rica and the 37-year-old rapper proposed in front of the pair’s friends, including Monica and spouse Shannon Brown, LeToya Lucket and others.

The pair have been together over five years.

HBO Launches “The Wire” Marathon

HBO’s critically acclaimed The Wire is now available on HBO Go and will also be available for purchase on January 5 via iTunes, Google Play, XBox Video and Vudu. Produced by David Simon, the series which launched the careers of Idris Elba, Michael B. Jordan, Michael K. Williams and more will finally release all 60 episodes.

Chronicling the drug trade, political power struggles and tangled relationships throughout the streets of Baltimore, HBO began airing a marathon of the well received crime drama, giving fans and new viewers alike the chance to start from the beginning. ‘The Interview’ Grosses $1 Million At The Box Office Christmas Day

The controversial comedy about North Korea has scored big at the box office. According to Sony Pictures, The Interview brought it a cool million at the box office on Christmas day.

After being released online on Wednesday (Dec. 24), the film hit a select 300 independent theaters across the U.S. on Thursday (Dec. 25).

Sony’s president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer released a statement thanking moviegoers for supporting the movie despite its drama.

“Considering the incredibly challenging circumstances, we are extremely grateful to the people all over the country who came out to experience The Interview on the first day of its unconventional release,” Bruer said.

The Seth Rogen-James Franco flick almost didn’t make it to movie theaters after anonymous terrorists began issuing threats of “9/11 style” attacks on the theaters to showed it. The threats caused Sony to pull The Interview from theaters but they later changed their minds on Tuesday (Dec. 23) and made the movie available to purchase or rent on services like Google Play and YouTube. Sony has not announced the estimates of online streams, rents or sales yet.

Eminem Is Gay In Comedy ‘The Interview’ (VIDEO)

After terrorist threats and a disastrous email leak, Sony Pictures decided to release the comedy The Interview on Christmas day in select theaters and on online streaming services. The flick, which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco, had a surprise cameo from hip-hop’s own Eminem. In a scene where he’s being interviewed by James Franco’s character, the Shady emcee is discussing the nature of his lyrics and drops a bomb when he reveals that he’s gay.

“I’m more shocked that people haven’t figured it out yet,” he says. “I’ve been playing gay peek-a-boo for years. I’ve pretty much been leaving a gay bread crumb trail.”

Detroit Rapper / Producer Kevlaar 7 Dies

Detroit rapper/producer Kevlaar 7 has died suddenly from a blood disorder.

Kevlaar 7 and his brother Bronze Nazareth were Wu Tang Affiliates and highly respected in Hip-Hop circles and were in a rap group called The Wisemen.

Bronze Nazareth offered clear, but somber words on Twitter. “Devastated. Rest In Power my Dear Brother,” he said.

The word spread fast on social media and fans sent their condolences accordingly.

The internet is chock-full of garbage sites that completely bogus and Beanie Sigel is the victim of a shameless “satire.”

A report in circulation has stated that the rapper is died after being shot earlier this month.

The rapper remains in the hospital, but is very much alive.

Freeway, one of Bean’s close friends, set the record straight on social media.

Fans of HBO’s The Wire will get a special gift tomorrow (December 26) when the cable network re-releases the masterful television program in high-definition. The HD version of all 60 episodes will run as a marathon on the HBO Signature channel and via the HBO Go website/app. One of the show’s stars is celebrating the milestone by releasing his fourth musical project.

The Pinkprint Debuts At No.2 As Nicki Minaj Is Named “Rapper Of The Year”

Although Taylor Swift has claimed the top spot on the latest Billboard 200, artist Nicki Minaj has come in right behind at number two with her third studio album The Pinkprint which also made it to number three on the Top Album Sales chart.

Rolling out with 244,000 units, the project beat original estimates that it would debut at 190, 000. Also in the top five was D’Angelo’s recently released Black Messiah.

She’s also been crowned by Complex as the “Best Rapper of 2014,” in a recent interview she explains, “There is no ‘mixtape Nicki,’ I’ve never stopped rapping; I’ve never stopped doing freestyles; I’ve never stopped doing remixes and features; I’ve never stopped raising the bar lyrically.”

While discussing his ability to consistently release hit records, Fab reflected on a time that he was shaded by one of his industry homies.

“Your album used to mainly be about your singles. When you have that so heavy on your mind it can [influence] your creative process. But I knew I had to make those records to be successful because I felt like every time I put out an album it was somebody waiting for it to not work anymore. I remember reading a friend of mine, Jermaine Dupri, who said ‘I like Fab’s raps but I can’t see him past two albums’. I was like Damn JD, you my boy. But I guess it was his honest opinion.”

In between releasing albums, the Brooklynite has been able to keep fans intrigued with his hilarious, charismatic Instagram posts and hashtags. He said that though he doesn’t mind letting fans in through IG, he makes sure to not expose too much.

“With social media, I give a little taste but I always want to keep a little mystique to myself. I don’t want people to look at me like I’m a social media personality. That’s the problem with reality TV. Once you go on reality TV that becomes your personality–you’re a reality star or whatever you’re acting like you are on TV.”

Ray J Partners Up With A Watch Company

Besides becoming an official member of the Love and Hip Hop family this year, Ray J has also been inking some business deals.

Ray J and his business partner David Weintraub have reportedly teamed up with RSNL Watches and now the “Wait A Minute” singer is the face of the company. No details on if he is involved behind the scenes or not. The watches, which sell for anywhere from $150 to $500, are available for purchase at Macy’s, Kohl’s and JC Penney.

Jeezy Shocks Kids, Parents With Free “Annie” Screening

Jeezy has done good once again.

The rapper hosted a screening of “Annie” and surprised a gaggle of young kids, who had no idea that they would be able to see the movie for free.

The rapper even bought popcorn he passed out to attendees, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The people were ecstatic.

“Jeezy was even passing out the popcorn himself,” Tenisha Bell said “What a wonderful way to pay it forward this holiday season.”

VH1 Refuses To Cancel ‘Sorority Sisters’ Despite Protests And Advertisers Cutting Ties

Women lie, men lie, ratings don’t.

VH1’s Sorority Sisters received much backlash after its premiere last week (Dec. 15) and sparked protests from fellow sorority and fraternity members in efforts to get the show pulled from the air. Despite having 76,000 people sign a petition to end the show, it will continue to go on, according to reports.

Even advertisers like Crayola, Honda, Hallmark, State Farm and Carmex have severed ties with the show but the network is refusing to cancel it, and the reason is the ratings.

The criticism and petitions did not change that Sorority Sisters pulled in 1.3 million viewers and “was the number one non-sports cable program in that time period among women ages 18 to 49.”

The ratings are expected to get lower and lower as the show goes on.

Sammy Davis Jr.’s Ex-Girlfriend Alleges Bill Cosby Assaulted Her

Katherine McKee, a former actress and ex-girlfriend of Sammy Davis Jr., has alleged that she was also a victim of Bill Cosby, joining more than 20 women who have accused the once famed comedian of rape and attempted assault.

According to McKee, “It was a rape, but it seemed so strange to call it that. We think of rape as a stranger who attacks you in a parking lot,” she concluded. “I chalked it up to another powerful person in Hollywood who just felt he could take what he wanted from women.”

T.I.’s decision to defend his Hustle Gang artist Iggy Azalea in a series of tweets posted last night did not sit well the collective online body that has come to be known as “Black Twitter.” The hashtag #WhenTipTweets began circulating the social media site, and users were quick to upload memes both making fun of Tip and questioning his support for Azalea.

Tyga Seeking Custody Of 2-Year-Old Son From Blac Chyna

While the masses enjoyed watching Amber Rose and Blac Chyna twerk away, Tyga was feeling some type of way. The “Rack City” rapper feels that the mother of his child is more concerned about the nightlife and showing off her backside every chance she gets and is now seeking primary custody of his 2-year-old-son King Cairo, according to TMZ,

T-Raww reportedly decided to file legal documents after seeing the his former bae and Amber Rose on all fours rumpshaking on IG and then got word of her heading to the club that same night. Reportedly there is no custody order put into place but the former stripper has their son more often and Tyga isn’t feeling that.

Legendary Producer Larry Smith Dies

Legendary producer Larry Smith has passed on after crafting hits for the likes of Run DMC, Whodini and Kurtis Blow during Hip-Hop’s earliest phase.

Smith was a Hip-Hop musician without peer, who used live instruments on rap songs.

Run of Run DMC immortalized Smith on the group’s hit record “Sucker MC’s” when he said, “Larry put me inside his Cadillac /The chauffeur drove off and we never came back.”

Smith had been ailing in recent years due to a stroke and succumbed on Friday December 19.

DMC of Run DMC fame paid his respects on Twitter. “Rest In Beats larry Smith Music In Your Heart hip Hop Was Your Gift to The World! No one does it better!”

At a recent concert stop in Brooklyn, Run paid his own respects.

“My man Larry Smith, he produced these records. It’s sad but fitting he passes away on the day I return to a big stage like this… I love you Larry, I hope you’re watching from Heaven and I’m making you proud,” Run said at the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn.

LL Cool J And Canibus End Long-Running Feud

Once upon a time, LL Cool J and Canibus waged one of the most storied, epic beef in Hip-Hop history.

Last night that beef came to an end in Brooklyn.

The two men put their differences aside at the “Christmas in Brooklyn” concert with LL Cool J and Run DMC Friday night.

The 17-year beef came to a close with the two men hugging it out and performed the LL Cool J hit “4,3,2,1.”

From the stage, LL said, “Had a lot of beefs in my life but sometimes we gotta be bigger than that, sometimes you got to take things to the next level, sometimes we gotta flip the script.”
“Yo, Canibus…I love you, boy” LL said. “Your career is starting again, baby.”

Q-Tip Shares A Lesson On The History Of Hip Hop, Racism & White Privilege With Iggy Azalea

Azealia Banks’ interview with Hot 97 sparked a discussion on the perceived appropriation of Black culture by White artists like Iggy Azalea. Other prominent figures in the Hip Hop community have begun sharing their thoughts on the matter as well. One of those artists is Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest.

The Queens representative took to Twitter to send public messages directly to Iggy about the history of Hip Hop culture, racism, and white privilege.

BET BIDS FAREWELL TO “106 & PARK”

Original hosts Free and AJ returned to the stage this evening to give a proper farewell to BETs groundbreaking show”106 & Park.” Hitting the airwaves in 2000, the countdown became a launching pad for a variety of artists and celebrities alike, as they turned to the show to stay in touch with a younger generation.

After deciding to pull the show in favor of a digital only format, the network officially closed a chapter which has included Big Tigger, Terrence J, Rocsi Diaz, Julissa, Bow Wow, Miss Mykie and more.

Formally closing out the show, the final video aired was Chris Brown’s “Deuces.”
